DAF Plant Safety Guidelines
Operating a dissolved air flotation (DAF) plant requires strict adherence to safety protocols to protect personnel, prevent equipment damage, and avoid environmental hazards.
Chemical Safety
- Use labeled, sealed containers away from heat sources
- Wear chemical-resistant gloves, goggles, and aprons
- Ensure proper ventilation when mixing or dosing chemicals
- Have spill response procedures and materials ready
- Store incompatible substances separately
Mechanical Safety
- Install guards on all rotating or moving components
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures for maintenance
- Regularly inspect for wear, loose fasteners, or damage
- Ensure equipment is de-energized before servicing
- Keep work areas clear of obstructions
Electrical Safety
- Ensure all components are properly grounded
- Use equipment rated for wet/damp environments
- Never touch electrical components with wet hands
- Address signs of water damage immediately
- Regularly check insulation and connections
PPE Requirements
- Wear slip-resistant shoes on wet floors
- Use hearing protection near loud machinery
- Wear respiratory masks when handling dusty chemicals
- Inspect PPE regularly for damage
- Ensure proper fit of all protective equipment
