DAF Unit Cleaning Guide
A systematic approach to maintaining your Dissolved Air Flotation system
Cleaning a dissolved air flotation (DAF) water treatment unit requires a systematic approach to protect components while removing contaminants like sludge, scale, and residue. Following proper procedures ensures safety, efficiency, and longevity of your equipment.
Preparation & Safety
Start by preparing the unit: first, shut down all power and disconnect the water supply to avoid safety risks. Drain the remaining water from the tank and transfer any collected sludge to a designated disposal container.
Main Tank Cleaning
Use a soft-bristled brush or a low-pressure water spray to scrub the tank's interior surfaces, focusing on areas where sludge accumulates. Avoid using abrasive tools that could scratch the tank's material.
Component Cleaning
Disassemble the air diffusers, nozzles, and pressure vessel and soak them in a cleaning solution designed to dissolve oil, grease, or sediment buildup. Use a small brush to clear clogs.
Rinsing & Reassembly
Rinse the entire unit with clean water to remove leftover cleaning solution or loosened residue. Reassemble the components carefully, ensuring seals and gaskets are properly aligned to prevent leaks.
Testing & Verification
Perform a test run with clean water to check if the unit operates smoothly—verify that bubbles form evenly and the skimmer works as intended.
Safety & Compliance Requirements
- Wear protective gear such as gloves, safety glasses, and a face mask to shield against chemicals or debris
- Ensure compliance with local waste management regulations to prevent environmental harm
- For stubborn scale or mineral deposits, mix a mild, non-corrosive cleaning solution
- Clean the skimming mechanism by wiping down the blades or belts with a damp cloth
- Check for any stuck debris that might hinder movement of mechanical parts
Note: Regular cleaning using this method helps maintain the DAF unit's efficiency, extends its lifespan, and ensures consistent water treatment performance.
