How to maintain the scum scraping system of DAF

2025-10-27

The scum scraping system is a key part of DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) wastewater treatment, as it removes floating scum to ensure smooth solid-liquid separation. Proper maintenance not only keeps the system running efficiently but also extends its service life, avoiding unexpected downtime that disrupts treatment processes.

1Regular Daily Inspections

Check the condition of scum scrapers, chains, and drive components:

  • Look for signs of deformation or wear on the scrapers—if they are bent or cracked, they may fail to scrape scum effectively.
  • Inspect the chains for looseness or rust; loose chains can cause uneven movement, while rust may lead to jamming.
  • Check the scraping path to ensure no scum accumulates in corners or along the edges, which could block the system's movement.

2Routine Cleaning Procedures

After shutting down the system (following safety procedures):

  1. Use soft tools to remove residual scum from scrapers and guide rails.
  2. Avoid using sharp objects that might scratch or damage the components.
  3. Clean the guide grooves thoroughly, as accumulated scum can increase friction and strain the drive motor over time.

3Moving Parts Maintenance

Proper care of mechanical components:

  • Adjust the tension of the chains regularly to prevent slack, which can cause the scrapers to skip or misalign.
  • Lubricate bearings and drive shafts with appropriate lubricants—choose products compatible with the system's materials to avoid corrosion.
  • Check seals and gaskets for leaks; replace any worn ones promptly to prevent wastewater from seeping into mechanical parts and causing damage.

4Prompt Issue Resolution

Address problems as soon as they appear:

  1. If unusual noises (such as grinding or squeaking) occur during operation, stop the system and investigate immediately.
  2. If scum is not being removed completely, identify the cause which may include worn components, blocked paths, or motor strain.
  3. Replace damaged parts in time to prevent small problems from escalating into major failures.

By following these steps, the scum scraping system of DAF will maintain reliable performance, supporting the overall efficiency of wastewater treatment operations.
