DAF System Troubleshooting Guide
Systematic approach to resolving issues in Dissolved Air Flotation systems
Abnormal Air Bubble Generation
Core Issue for DAF Efficiency
- Check the dissolved air generator pressure settings
- Inspect air diffusers for clogs from sludge or debris
- Clean diffusers with a soft brush or appropriate solvent
- Verify the reflux pump operation for smooth water circulation
Poor Contaminant Removal
Suspended Solids, Oil, or Grease Issues
- Verify correct type and concentration of coagulants/flocculants
- Check for uneven flow (short-circuiting) in flotation tank
- Adjust inlet baffles or reposition water distribution pipes
- Ensure sludge skimmer is working properly
Sludge Discharge Issues
Sludge Exit Problems and Line Clogs
- Inspect sludge skimmer or scraper for mechanical jamming
- Clear obstructions from skimmer's path
- Examine discharge port and connecting pipes for blockages
- Adjust sludge discharge frequency to prevent excessive thickening
Unusual Noises or Leaks
Mechanical and Sealing Problems
- Check pumps or motors for loose components
- Ensure proper lubrication of moving parts
- Inspect hoses, seals, and tank joints for wear
- Replace damaged seals and fasten connections securely
Important: After resolving any issues, always run a test cycle to confirm system performance, and document the problem and solution for future reference.
